The Furever Promise
The Furever Promise
A Lifetime of Service Deserves a Lifetime of Care.
Military working dogs serve alongside America's service members, protecting lives, supporting critical operations, and carrying out duties that often place them in harm's way.
They are trained to serve. They are trusted to protect. They become partners, teammates, and family. But when their military service comes to an end, their need for care does not.
The mission is to change that.
The Military Working Dog Furever Care Act is an independent advocacy initiative dedicated to establishing federally funded lifetime veterinary care for retired U.S. military working dogs.
I believe that the responsibility to care for these dogs should not end when their working years do. Every dog who has served our country deserves access to the medical care, treatment, and support needed to live out the remainder of its life with dignity.
Why We Exist
Retirement should mark the beginning of a well-deserved new chapter, not the beginning of uncertainty surrounding a dog's medical care.
Many retired military working dogs transition into loving homes with their former handlers, military families, or civilian adopters. These families provide companionship, stability, and a place to call home.
However, veterinary expenses do not disappear when a dog retires. Routine examinations, preventive treatments, medications, chronic conditions, emergency procedures, and age-related illnesses can create significant financial responsibilities over the years that follow.
Although nonprofit organizations and charitable programs provide invaluable assistance, access to that support can depend on eligibility, available funding, and organizational resources. We believe a dog's access to medically necessary care should not depend on whether an organization has funding available or whether an adopting family can afford an unexpected veterinary expense.
The burden of ensuring these dogs receive appropriate care should not fall solely on the people who welcome them home.
What We Believe
Service Deserves Recognition:
Military working dogs play an important role in protecting service members and supporting our nation's missions. Their contributions deserve lasting recognition.
Retirement Should Bring Security:
A retired working dog's access to necessary veterinary care should not depend on its adopter's financial circumstances.
Care Should Be Lifelong:
Medical needs do not end when military service does. Our commitment to these dogs should extend throughout the remainder of their lives.
Responsibility Should Be Shared:
Handlers, adopters, and charitable organizations should not be left to carry the entire financial responsibility for caring for dogs who served our country.
Our Vision
We envision a future in which every retired military working dog can transition into retirement knowing that its medical needs will be supported, its well-being prioritized, and its years of service never forgotten.
A future where families can focus on providing love, companionship, and a peaceful retirement without facing the uncertainty of how they will afford necessary veterinary care.
A future where the commitment made to these dogs does not expire when their service ends.
A Message From The Founder
I founded the initiative for the Military Working Dog Furever Care Act because I believe the responsibility we have to these dogs should extend beyond their years of service. These dogs dedicate their lives to protecting others. They work alongside service members, enter dangerous environments, and perform duties that demand extraordinary trust, training, and loyalty.
When their service ends, they deserve the opportunity to enjoy retirement without their medical care becoming an overwhelming financial burden on the families who welcome them home. The families who adopt these dogs are giving them something invaluable: a home, companionship, and the opportunity to live out their remaining years as beloved members of a family. They should not have to shoulder the entire financial responsibility for the medical needs that may follow years of service.
I believe we can do better for them.
This initiative is about building a lasting commitment to the health, dignity, and well-being of the dogs who have served our country. It is about recognizing that their service mattered, their sacrifices mattered, and the responsibility to care for them should not end at retirement.
They served us. Now it's our turn to serve them.
